FULFILLING ONE'S DUTY AS A FAITHFUL SOLDIER OF CHRIST
INTRODUCTION Upon receiving the gift of salvation, Christians no longer serve themselves but are called to serve the LORD Jesus Christ instead. Matthew 16:24-25 (KJV) states “ 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. ” Denying oneself is central to the Christian life because Jesus Christ instructed us that whosoever wishes to be His disciples must forsake their worldly ambitions, dreams and goals to be an effective evangelist and witness for His kingdom. When Jesus called out to Simon (Peter) and Andrew whilst they were fishing, He told them “ come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men ”, and “ straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him ” (cf.
